Project corrupted: how to restore the data?
In some cases, due to not saving the data properly, the software auto-updating from the version too old, or due to incorrect shutdown/unexpected crash of the tool, a project file may get corrupted.
Firstly, do not panic - there are still ways to restore the data.
When launching a project and receiving this error message, you can follow the onscreen instructions to share the affected project file with our team:
The team will check your project file and advise if it can be reverted to the latest state, we will follow up with any findings accordingly.
Restoring the last saved version of the project file.
You can also try restoring the last saved version of your file.
On Windows: go to C:\Users\username\.websiteauditor\recovery\ folder (on macOS: go to Users/username/.websiteauditor/recovery/ folder)*, and check whether the corrupted file is present there (with an .bak extension) **.
Please copy the file to your desktop and rename it - remove the .bak extension - then try opening it again. There's a chance you'll manage to recover the last saved version of the project without losing all the data.
* Make sure to go to the associated tool's folder (.ranktracker, .websiteauditor, .seospyglass, and .linkassistant).
** These folder files are hidden on macOS by default, so you may need first to enable hidden folders in Finder.
Storing the project files in a cloud/network folder on your hard drive.
The connection to a local cloud folder may get interrupted anytime, that's why we strongly recommend NOT to store the projects in local Dropbox/Google Drive/Network folders).
Yet, some of the services have the option to restore the previous version of the file - kindly check for such an option:
