The Visibility metric in RankTracker shows how well a website ranks in Top 30 results for a keyword. It depends on each keyword's Rank across all the search engines enabled in the project.
Why top 30?
Google may serve up to 1,000 results for a search query. However, most studies on user behavior prove that only 3% of them get searchers' attention – the ones served on the first 3 results pages. Chances are low that a searcher will browse further than page 3 if no suitable results came up by then.
If your site is among the lucky few, searchers are more likely to click on your site's snippet. So, the higher in Top 30 your site ranks, the more visible it is to the public and the more visitors it can get.
How is Visibility calculated?
Each Rank (position) corresponds to a certain number of Visibility points:
- #1 brings you 30 points (maximum possible), which results in a 100% Visibility score
- #30 equals 1 visibility point and 3% Visibility
Visibility score = visibility points / 30 / number of search engines * 100%

If you are tracking your keywords in multiple search engines, Rank Tracker will put your visibility points together in all of them and calculate a total Visibility score.
Here is an example with a keyword tracked in 3 search engines:
Search engine | Rank | Visibility points |
Google.com | 2 | 29 |
Yahoo.com | 11 | 20 |
Ask.com | 31 | 0 |
Total: | 49 |
To calculate the site’s visibility in 3 search engines, we divide the sum of its visibility points (49) by 90 (30 scores from 3 search engines) and multiply the total by 100%. It gives us 54.44%, which then gets rounded up. 54% is the site’s Visibility score for the keyword in Google, Yahoo! and Ask.
